Scholarship for the Technical College (FOS)

Shaping the future – learning through practical experience – seizing opportunities

The International German School of Brussels (iDSB) awards partial scholarships to motivated and talented pupils who wish to shape their educational journey in a practical and forward-looking way.

Fachhoschulreife (Fachabitur) – the practical route to vocational training or higher education

The world of work is changing rapidly. Digitalisation, artificial intelligence and new job profiles are already shaping the demands of tomorrow. Companies are increasingly looking for young people who not only possess theoretical knowledge, but who can also think practically, take on responsibility and act flexibly.

This is exactly where the FOS comes in.

The FOS combines a solid general education with a strong practical component, offering pupils a modern educational pathway with excellent prospects – both for further study and for a direct entry into the world of work.

The iDSB focuses on the Business & Administration stream. Here, pupils acquire key skills for an increasingly digital and interconnected world of work: analytical thinking, an understanding of business, the ability to work in a team, and practical experience within real-world business structures.

Why is the FOS particularly attractive today?

Whilst many traditional job roles are undergoing change due to automation and AI, practical skills, an understanding of business, and application-oriented competencies are becoming increasingly important.

Who are we looking to support?

The scholarship is aimed at committed and motivated Year 10 pupils who wish to obtain their University of Applied Sciences entrance qualification at iDSB within two years.

It is particularly aimed at young people who:

  • wish to pursue a practical approach to learning,
  • have already developed an initial interest in careers in business and administration,
  • and wish to actively shape their future with an international focus.

What are the selection criteria?

Applications are open to pupils in Year 10 (Year 11 in the academic year of the scholarship) from all types of schools who are not yet members of the iDSB school community.

Applications from siblings and/or children of staff members are not eligible.

The scholarship is intended exclusively for pupils whose school fees are paid by a natural person (e.g. parents or another legal guardian). Pupils whose school fees are normally paid or covered by a legal entity (e.g. the parents’ employer) are excluded from receiving the scholarship.

The level of German language proficiency must be sufficient to follow lessons effectively (at least level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

What does the scholarship cover?

The scholarship includes:

  • enrolment in a FOS class with personalised support,
  • a modern learning environment with high-quality teaching,
  • individual support and intensive guidance,
  • practical, work-oriented learning,
  • enrolment in our small FOS class,
  • as well as a wide range of activities beyond the regular curriculum.

The scholarship covers 50% of the annual fee for school education at the FOS.

Not included are additional costs for excursions, teaching materials, canteen meals, etc.

Boarding facilities are not available at iDSB. However, if required, the school will be happy to assist with finding a host family.
