Welcome to the iDSB Secondary School

Our secondary school starts in grade 5 and finishes at the end of grade 12 with the German International Abitur Examination (DIAP).

Modern English and French lessons from grade 5 and bilingual subject lessons from grade 6 are the foundation for the high language competence.

From grade 8, we offer Spanish as a third foreign language. In grade 10, Dutch can also be chosen.

The science section includes IT as an additional subject as well as practical work in the Science Lab.

The German International Abitur Examination (DIAP) qualifies students to study at any university worldwide.

„I have been attending the iDSB for several years and I will be finished with school this summer. As much as I am looking forward to the time after graduation, I will miss the iDSB. Our school is a colorful “bunch” of different nationalities. This gives us the chance to learn a lot about others and the world. And as a student representative, I find it impressive what an important and active role we students are allowed to take at the iDSB.“

    Classes and number of students

Every year, we have two classes per grade level, where students learn in classrooms and sometimes also in our course system. Class sizes are currently between 16 and 24 students, with a maximum of 25.

    Class hours

Our students attend mandatory classes from 8:00 am to 3:40 pm. For grades 5 to 9, classes end at 1:10 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays. Due to the possible choice of subjects in grades 10 to 12, students can have classes until 5:20 pm.

    Teaching language

The primary teaching language is German. In the bilingual subject classes from grade 6 on, instruction is given in English and/or French.

    Foreign languages

Modern English and French lessons from grade 5 and bilingual subject lessons from grade 6 lay the foundation for our students’ high level of language competence. The language program is supplemented by Spanish and Dutch. Pupils with previous language knowledge can do the Latinum.

    Curricula

Teaching is based on the Thuringian Educational Plan, which is considered a high-quality educational standard and is approved by the German authorities. This ensures successful school transfers within the German schools abroad and within the German states. In addition, our comprehensive school curriculum is tailored to the needs of our students.

From grade 8 onwards, we offer a choice between a language and a science focus, depending on the interests of our students. For the linguistic focus, Spanish is added as a third foreign language. The science section includes IT as an additional subject as well as practical work in the Science Lab.

    Graduation

The German International Abitur Examination (DIAP) entitles students to study at any university worldwide. It grants access to any field of study, regardless of which subjects were chosen in the secondary school. It also shows the excellent foreign language skills (with a focus on English) of our students, who receive extensive language training with bilingual and fully foreign language lessons in the last three years of school.
