Musical encounters across borders: The Regensburg Domspatzen visit the iDSB

Music, socialising and cultural exchange were the hallmarks of the Regensburg Domspatzen’s visit to our school from 21 to 25 September. The pupils in the upper school music classes spent several varied days with the guests from the 11th year of the Regensburg Domspatzen, which were marked by numerous encounters and joint activities.

A particular highlight was the joint concert in the well-attended iDSB assembly hall on Thursday evening, during which the young musicians of the iDSB preliminary orchestra, conducted by Mr Jongebloed, the iDSB primary school choir, conducted by Ms Breuer, and our soloists Sophia Wurst (piano) and Frida Holte-Nielsen (vocals), together with the experienced singers from Regensburg, impressively demonstrated their skills, resulting in a successful and entertaining concert evening of the highest standard. The primary school children also benefited from the visit: in a musical workshop held in the morning, they were able to experience first-hand the joy of singing and making music.

Alongside the musical activities, the programme for our guests included observing lessons in our upper school classes, various excursions and a guided tour of Brussels’ sights led by our upper school pupils. This provided plenty of opportunities for conversation, making new friends and gaining fascinating insights into the culture of our host city. The exchange will be rounded off by a planned return visit to Regensburg in January 2027 involving the pupils, as well as the growing exchange between the music teachers of both schools. This year’s visit by the Regensburger Domspatzen will be remembered by everyone involved as a special time full of music, camaraderie and new experiences, and we are already looking forward to the next visit and the concert in autumn 2027.
