Democracy in Dialogue: School pupils discuss issues with MEP Nela Riehl
Gaining a better understanding of politics and democracy – on 18 March, we were supported in this by Nela Riehl, who has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2024. During the foyer discussion, Anneliese Eisele and Mona Clausen hosted the evening and facilitated the wide-ranging questions from pupils in Years 10 to 12.
The discussion covered a wide range of topics: from equality and current political developments to democracy in the European Union. It was particularly important to many students that the focus was not solely on issues of war, but that other socially relevant questions were also given space.
It was thus an entertaining, lively evening with many stimulating ideas – and, above all, an opportunity to make politics tangible and to experience democracy first-hand.
