From uncertainty to security: pupils master crisis situations.
When every second counts:
Fourteen pupils from our secondary school took part in an intensive first aid course last weekend, which focused primarily on practical exercises.
After just two days, their initial uncertainty and fears gave way to confidence in their actions and the ability to react quickly and correctly. The pupils gradually learned basic and advanced first aid measures and practised remaining calm in difficult situations.
A welcome change was provided by the participation of our teachers, who came in their free time to take on the role of the injured. This allowed the students to practise first aid under very realistic conditions, including communicating with the ‘injured’ and coping with stressful situations.
The students can use their newly acquired skills not only in everyday life, but also when obtaining their driving licence. The experiences of this weekend have given them more confidence and willingness to help whenever necessary. Because: ‘The only thing you can do wrong in first aid is to do nothing.’
