LANGUAGES

Foreign languages

In the middle school, pupils in classes 5 to 8 learn English and French together with secondary school pupils in differentiated groups. Learning a second foreign language is optional for the middle school pupils.

In the inter-year middle school classes 9 and 10 R, our pupils are offered intensive English and French classes.

Pupils without a second foreign language have the option to learn Dutch starting in class 10. Classes are held together with secondary school pupils in class 10.

Language support for beginners

We offer special in-class and out-of-class programs for pupils who join our school from other education systems or countries. Pupils who join our French and English classes are offered remedial courses both at the school premises and also in cooperation with external language institutions. Children whose German skills are not yet good enough are offered intensive support with our German as a foreign language courses.

In order to strengthen foreign-language interests, we encourage our pupils to also take part in foreign language competitions or exchange programs. Examples include “Wij praten Nederlands” with pupils from Heilig Hart College in Tervuren or “Nous parlons francais” with the young Walloons of our partner school in Arlon. We also have other partnership programs with Lycée Francais Jean Monnet de Bruxelles or the DY Patil School in Antwerp, which provide us with a global educational network through the “Bridges to Asia” program.

Participation in Model United Nations seeks to challenge particularly talented pupils to test their foreign language skills. They are invited to simulated UN conferences where they act as representatives of the member countries. Some of our very eloquent speakers have been rewarded with one of the coveted awards!
