Journalism up close – a workshop with Belgieninfo at the iDSB
A very special event awaited pupils in Years 9 to 11 at iDSB on 17 March 2026: a workshop with Belgieninfo.
As part of the media partnership with the German-language online platform Belgieninfo, a workshop on journalistic practice was held, offering fascinating insights into the world of journalism.
The guests were the experienced journalists Ms Newsom, Mr Stabenow, Mr Klute and Mr Boest. In a panel discussion, they answered the pupils’ numerous questions. They spoke openly about their day-to-day working lives, the responsibility of the media, and moving experiences and encounters with people.
Following the discussion, it was the pupils’ turn to try their hand at writing. In various workshops, they were able to write their own journalistic pieces and experiment with different formats. The topics were as varied as they were creative: ranging from commentaries on politics and society, through film reviews and concert critiques, to reports on school trips and secret student missions. While writing, they were supported by the professionals from Belgieninfo, who, as language coaches, provided valuable tips and personalised feedback on the texts.
The workshop concluded with a ‘gallery walk’, during which the pupils presented their texts. The results clearly demonstrated just how productive the workshops had been and the journalistic potential that lies within some of these young writers.
The workshop was a wonderful experience for everyone involved and a step towards further strengthening the media partnership between the iDSB and Belgieninfo. We in the German Department are already looking forward to future joint projects with Belgieninfo.
