    Per aspera ad astra!

Through toil one reaches the stars! (as the Romans would have said…)

As early as Year 5, Abigel Ujj-Toyger decided to take Latin as an additional subject. In the ‘Latin Forum’, she learnt the foreign language two hours a week, initially ungraded. As she really enjoyed her Latin lessons with Dr Wernig, she even decided to take Latin as a third foreign language from Year 6. From then on, she continued to expand her vocabulary and grammar knowledge in four weekly lessons, translated and analysed Latin texts and, last but not least, studied Roman culture.

In order to obtain the Latinum after these four intensive years of learning, Abigel had to take both a written and an oral exam with an external examiner in May of this year. Mr Rolf Küppers from Cologne agreed to do this and came to our school – we would like to thank him very much for this!

In preparation for the exam, Abigel not only studied ancient rhetoric in Latin lessons with Mrs Ruffert, but also Latin poetry and verse in order to be able to translate and interpret Cicero and Ovid.

The effort was worth it, she was able to inspire with both,
