Interza is the municipal body that collects waste and runs the recycling parks. Operation Clean is a reward system for schools, with the aim of working together to create a better local neighbourhood and tackling litter in a sustainable manner. The iDSB prepared an action plan for the students, while Interza offered support such as clean-up materials including high-visibility vests, gloves, waste bags and metal litter-pickers.
Across individual classes and with the children from the two Outdoor AGs, the iDSB collected rubbish and waste in and around the streets, wooded areas and park close to the school. As well as the usual litter such as paper, tissues, cigarette packets and plastic bottles, there were a few more interesting articles including golf balls and items of clothing.
Following all our hard work, and as a way of thanking everyone for the sustained efforts, Interza has now presented the school with a nice financial reward (450 EUR!). In the coming weeks we will decide the best way to re-invest the hard-earned cash in a way that continues to support us all in our environmental goals.
Thank you to all the iDSB children for participating so enthusiastically in this important initiative.
